Rajasthan is a haven for a wide spectrum of wildlife. The topography of Rajasthan ranges from the barren desert, scrub-thorn arid forests, rocks and ravines to wetlands and lush, green forests. And each of these areas houses a large variety of animal and bird life. Some of them rare while some endangered. Rajasthan is the home of the tigers, black bucks, chinkara, the rare desert fox, the endangered caracal, the great Indian bustard, gavial, monitor lizard, wild boars, porcupine. Migratory birds like the common crane, ducks, coots, pelicans and the rare Siberian cranes, imperial sand grouse, falcons, buzzards flocks to this state during the winter months. Typical areas representing each of the ecosystems have been earmarked as special areas wildlife. Rajasthan boasts of two National Parks, over a dozen Sanctuaries and two Closed Areas. Most of these areas are open to visitors round the year but are closed briefly during the monsoon Rajasthan Wildlife ToursRajasthan has a varied topography for the most part it is a desert but it also has the oldest mountain range in the world and also lush water filled valleys. This mixed topography provides an ideal shelter for the tiger and its many prey species. Here, large shallow lakes have comfortably supported crocodiles and other such reptilian creatures. A small part of Rajasthan also includes the wetlands of north India and this marshy area is the perfect haven for a variety of bird life. Even the vast desert tracks of Rajasthan support a fragile eco-system where only a few grasses and shrubs support the Indian Bustard, the spiny tail lizard, the desert hare, hedgehog, snakes, chameleons and the desert fox.Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary Tours Once the hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Alwar, Sariska's forests are typical of the Aravallis with their low lying hills, steep escarpments, wide valleys and high plateaus. This heavily forested reserve shows up a large number of deer species including the sambhar, chital and nilgai, as well as langurs and a wide variety of other wildlife including the elusive tiger, leopards, jungle cat, jackals, hyenas and wild dogs. Keoladeo Ghana National Park The marshy swamplands were created by the Maharaja of Bharatpur, who diverted water from the irrigation canals to create a permanent home for water fowls. Today, over 121 species of birds nest at Keoladeo and it is considered among the finest bird parks in the world. Several more species of migratory birds journey to this sanctuary every winter, some come from as far away as Siberia, and these Siberian Cranes are definitely the VIP birds at the sanctuary. Ranthambore National Park The Royal Bengal Tiger found at Ranthambore National Park is a truly fascinating creature, fast, furious, immensely graceful and incredibly rare. The park is situated in Eastern Rajasthan, where the Aravali Hill ranges and the Vindhyan plateau meet. Six man made lakes are the central focus of the park and many perennial streams criss-cross the entire sanctuary. The rivers Chambal in the South and Banas in the North bound the Ranthambore National Park.
